Underarm bleaching is a non-invasive topical procedure that uses clinical-grade depigmenting active ingredients to reduce the accumulation of melanin in the skin of this area. Unlike commercial creams, the protocols applied in clinic penetrate the layers where hyperpigmentation originates, achieving a progressive, uniform and long-lasting lightening.
Frequent causes of axillary hyperpigmentation: chronic friction from constant rubbing with clothing and arm movement; recurrent hair removal that generates microlesions; antiperspirants and deodorants with alcohol, aggressive fragrances or aluminum salts; insulin resistance (acanthosis nigricans); genetic predisposition in certain phototypes; and accumulation of dead cells from lack of adequate exfoliation.
The underarm bleaching protocol at our clinic is based on the controlled application of clinical-grade depigmenting active ingredients that act at different phases of the pigmentation process: tyrosinase inhibition (blocking the enzyme responsible for melanin production), gentle chemical exfoliation (promoting cell renewal), antioxidant action (neutralizing free radicals) and deep hydration (restoring the skin barrier).
The treatment is performed in scheduled sessions, with an interval that allows the skin to regenerate adequately between each application. Results begin to be visible from the first sessions and consolidate progressively.
Initial private consultation. The phototype, degree of axillary hyperpigmentation and skin sensitivity are evaluated to design the appropriate protocol.
Tyrosinase inhibition. Active ingredients that block the enzyme responsible for melanin production are applied, reducing the formation of new pigment.
Gentle chemical exfoliation. Cell renewal is promoted to eliminate the superficial layers with excess accumulated pigment.
Antioxidant action and hydration. Free radicals are neutralized and the skin barrier is restored to minimize irritation.
Follow-up sessions. Spaced applications are scheduled according to skin tolerance, with monitoring of progress at each visit.
Expected results. Uniformity of skin tone in the axillary area relative to the rest of the body, with gradual lightening that avoids artificial contrasts. The first changes are appreciated between the second and third session.
Effect duration. Results are long-lasting provided basic post-treatment care is maintained, such as using alcohol-free deodorants and daily hydration. If the causes that originated the hyperpigmentation persist, an occasional maintenance session may be required.
Recovery and care. Non-invasive procedure, with no recovery time. It is recommended to avoid deodorants and antiperspirants during the first 24 to 48 hours after each session.
How many sessions are needed to see results?
The number of sessions depends on the degree of hyperpigmentation and the skin’s individual response. In general terms, the first changes are appreciated between the second and third session. The complete protocol usually consists of four to six sessions, spaced according to each patient’s skin tolerance.
Does the treatment hurt?
No. Underarm bleaching is a non-invasive topical procedure. During application a slight sensation of freshness or tingling may be felt, but it produces no pain. In cases of especially sensitive skin, the concentration of the active ingredient is adjusted to ensure the patient’s comfort.
Are the results permanent?
Results are long-lasting provided basic post-treatment care is maintained, such as using alcohol-free deodorants, daily hydration and protecting the skin from irritating factors. However, if the causes that originated the hyperpigmentation persist, an occasional maintenance session may be required.
Is it safe for all skin types?
Yes. The treatment is adapted to each patient’s phototype and sensitivity. During the initial private consultation the skin type, the origin of the hyperpigmentation and any condition that should be considered before starting the protocol are evaluated.
Can I apply deodorant after the treatment?
It is recommended to avoid the application of deodorants and antiperspirants during the first 24 to 48 hours after each session, to allow the skin to recover without interference. Subsequently, it is suggested to use alcohol-free formulations with soothing active ingredients.
